California Prays...
California Prays
Spirit of Grace
Embrace and fill our hearts with courage
As we face an uncertain future.
Hold us close and let us know
That You feel our pain.
Bring us into that place where we can
Move into wholeness and safety once again.
Our hearts are breaking as we see
This devastation and our dreams go up in flames.
We are grateful to be alive, but this...
This is so hard.
We see our friends and neighbors
Running for their lives.
The wild animals are everywhere and so confused.
The children are crying...
Help us, we pray, oh God!
Hear our prayers in these days of sorrow.
Help us to see beyond the smoke.
Comfort the ones who are grieving.
Keep them in your care.
Shield the children and our elders.
Protect all the firefighters who
Are putting their lives on the line to
Suppress this thief of life.
Spare their lives and bless them
For their valiant efforts
On behalf of all of us.
We are tired now.
We need to rest somewhere.
Help us to get through the next days and weeks,
To know what to do and where to go.
It's overwhelming to think about.
And yet, the fire consumes our thoughts as well.
Let there be peace in the midst of this turmoil.
Let there be hope, just a glimmer.
Let us see something to look forward to
and have someone to hold.
In the name of the One Who Loves us all,
Amen

Compassionate Prayer
Compassionate Prayer
Sometimes in the still of the night I awaken with one thought on my mind: people who are hurting. Some are people I know personally. Some are those I've only read about. Some are those whose blogs I've read and have not met face tot face but with whom I still share a heart-felt and spiritual connection.
I am keenly aware that we face many things in our lives that cause pain. Although I believe that we face these things to make us stronger, I do know that we are not meant to go it alone.
And so I pray for them. I pray for peace and wisdom. I pray for comfort and healing. I pray for God-given strength and energy to get through this. I pray simply, "Thy will be done." It doesn't make any difference if they know I am praying or not. God knows. The Creator of this vast Universe knows.
I don't pretend to understand entirely why some people seemingly get along fine in this world and others are plagued with what appear to be insurmountable tragedy and loss. All I know is that if I am a compassionate member of the human race, it touches me, too.
Victor Frankl said, "What is to give light must endure burning."
I care. I really care. And rather than submit to the feeling of helplessness, and aside from offering my words of comfort, I know that I can pray. The God who knows all things knows this, too.
We are given the opportunity to speak up on behalf of friends and loved ones, of strangers and people we've never met. We are allowed to say what is on our hearts and minds. We have a voice. And He is listening.
Duke Ellington said, "Everyone prays in their own language and there is no language that God does not understand."
This is known to some as intercessory prayer. It is a powerful tool. And it works. Whether it's from a distance or right in the same room that a prayer is offered makes no difference. It is just as effective. It was designed to be.
There have been numerous studies done on prayer and its effects. If you want more information on the subject, there is a wonderful book entitled Healing Words: The Power of Prayer and The Practice of Medicine by Larry Dossey, M.D. and it's available at Amazon. (Important: Be sure to type the entire title into the Amazon searchbar.)
We are all connected. We do feel each other, in the good times and the bad. Prayer is very empowering. It brings us into the center of the human experience and plugs us into the Power of the Universe. As prayer unites the physical and the spiritual, we become the conduit for the most powerful force known to man. Love. And by some unexplained process, perhaps then, healing can occur.
At the beginning of chapter 6, Larry Dossey quotes Paracelsus (1493-1541): "The main reason for healing is love".
Be Blessed,
Robin

Please feel free to join in the fun and festivity!

Please include line numbers, and please also include a call to all bloggers to join Santa's Community here on MyBlogLog!
Then tag 5 more bloggers (picking existing members of the "Santa's Community Blog" community would be a good start), who will add their next 2 lines, and they tag another 5 more bloggers, etc. etc.
You can turn the text after the first line into a Christmas Short Story, a Poem, a Carol, whatever you feel like doing. When the text has reached 21 lines, you are asked to submit the story.
